What is psycho-educational testing?
For those who are experiencing barriers to successful performance in work, school, home or in community settings, the results of a psycho-educational assessment can be helpful in understanding such barriers and working to overcome them. Download the brochure.
By using formal and informal assessment tools, we can provide useful information about:
- development
- cognitive ability (intellectual functioning)
- current levels of academic achievement
- learning style
- memory
- behavior
- social and emotional functioning
- clarity on mental health issues
- interests and career preferences
What are the benefits?
Results obtained from psycho-educational testing are helpful to identify cognitive strengths and weaknesses, and in developing academic interventions. Testing can also yield information to help confirm or disconfirm mental health diagnoses, such as developmental delay or attention disorders. Testing can also provide information helpful in determining intellectual giftedness. Assessment can provide information regarding personal interests and career preferences, which is useful in career planning, making a transition to a new line of work, and in job searches.
What is involved in the assessment process?
Different screenings are available. A comprehensive battery typically includes cognitiveand achievement measures, socio-emotional measures, and a developmental history. These measures are also available individually or in combination. Evaluations for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and for other mental health diagnoses are also available. We also offer career planning and interest inventories.
Following a screening phone call, an appointment for testing will be set up. Appointments for a comprehensive battery generally range from four-to-five hours; the session can be divided into two appointments. Following the assessment session, tests are scored and interpreted. The results are shared with clients during an individual feedback session.
What is the cost?
Costs for individual tests vary. Comprehensive assessments range between $800 and $1200. Insurance may cover a portion or all of the cost.
