At any point in the criminal justice continuum, we work with offenders and other agencies to provide services to both juvenile and adult offenders regarding mental health issues. Our model program provides coordinated, integrated services for offenders, tapping into resources throughout Arapahoe/Douglas Mental Health Network and in the community. We provide or facilitate:
CIT Case Management Services
Our CIT team, a part of our case management program, works with CIT officers (a specially trained police officer who has been trained to recognize and diffuse problems that stem from emotional and mental issues). Offenders who are recognized as mentally ill may be referred to us by a CIT officer for case management support and counselling, thus diverting offenders from incarceration.
The C.I.T. case management team is one of the only teams of its kind in Colorado, directly providing these case management services. In other communities, it is solely the CIT police officer that does the follow-up.
