  Adult Outpatient Services

We provide individual, couples, family and group therapy for all ages.
At Arapahoe/Douglas Mental Health Network, our Adult Outpatient team provides counseling and therapy on an outpatient basis to consumers with a wide range of emotional, social and psychiatric needs. We also have specialized services and programs to serve you including:

Case Management - We connect you to other services in the community.
Medication Services - If medication is needed, we can help.
Specialized Programs - We offer special programs to treat Borderline Personality Disorder, Bipolar Disorder and to work with older adults.

We provide services for Medicaid, Medicare and sliding-scale/self-pay consumers. As well, we serve those who are uninsured and underinsured (indigent) consumers as our funds permit.  In some cases, we can work with you to either help you get the benefits you need, or refer you to other community services.

We work in partnership with you.
When you contact us, we begin with a thorough assessment and the development of a personal treatment plan that details your strengths and goals. We then decide together what the best treatment options are for you.

Our licensed master’s-level clinicians are skilled in building trusting relationships with adults, children and families. We understand the difficult challenges and choices individuals face on a daily basis.  Our treatment is always strength-based, time-effective and solution-focused. We have a proven record of success, so you can be assured that you and your loved ones get on the quickest possible path to recovery.

Case Management

Arapahoe/Douglas Mental Health Network provides case management services to adults who require additional support beyond treatment. Depending on the level of need, our case managers can assist with such issues as benefits, housing, employment, life skills, budgeting, medical and dental care, and connections to other community services that can help clients further their recovery goals. Substitute payee services are also available for consumers who cannot manage their financial affairs because of a mental illness.

Our case managers are advocates for consumers, making sure they receive the appropriate monitoring and continuity of care that meets their particular circumstances. But regardless of whether the level of case management is relatively simple or much more intensive, our goal is to support independence and an enhanced quality of life by working directly with consumers and the other members of their treatment team.

Medication Services

While medication isn’t appropriate for every consumer who comes to Arapahoe/Douglas Mental Health Network for treatment, we do offer complete medication support to consumers when prescribed as part of an initial assessment with one of our psychiatrists. If medication is recommended, our Medication Services team will work with consumers and their clinicians to identify the most effective medications for their individual needs.

After all, the purpose of using any medication as a part of treatment is to control symptoms to help consumers feel better faster. As medication experts, we educate consumers about their medications, answer questions about their prescriptions and work as an integral part of the consumer’s Arapahoe/Douglas Mental Health Network team. We want consumers to know that the decision to use medication is never entered into lightly and that they are always a part of any discussions about whether to start a prescription drug.

Specialized Programs

We also offer these specialized programs through Adult Outpatient Services:

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is a serious mental illness characterized by a chronic pattern of instability in emotions, interpersonal relationships, self-image, impulses and behavior. Individuals with borderline personality disorder lack a clear sense of identity and frequently engage in a wide range of self-destructive behaviors. Many of these adults struggle with depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, eating disorders and alcohol and drug abuse. They live on a psychological edge that could best be described as an unending emotional roller coaster of extreme highs and lows.

While there is still much to learn about BPD, studies indicate that the use of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) can help to improve the quality of life of those with this disorder. Using cognitive and behavioral strategies, the overall goal of DBT is to help individuals acquire the emotional and interpersonal skills they need in order to cope with daily life. It is offered to consumers at ADMHN who meet defined criteria and are able to commit to a 24-week outpatient program that combines both individual and group therapy throughout the treatment process. Each of the master’s level licensed clinicians on our DBT team has received intensive training in the use of this specialized therapy, and the DBT approach is communicated to other clinical teams who may also have contact with these clients.

Bipolar Education and Skills Training – The B.E.S.T. Program

B.E.S.T. Program (Bipolar Education and Skills Training) is a series of weekly classes that teach adults with a confirmed diagnosis of bipolar disorder how to better manage this lifelong illness in order to prevent relapse and the subsequent disruption to their lives that symptoms can bring. The classes are based on current research and cover the major areas that have been shown to be effective in reducing symptoms and preventing hospitalizations. Topics include the latest information about the disorder; medications; relapse prevention; coping with stress and change; strategies for strengthening relationships; communication and problem solving skills; and how to use thinking skills to manage moods.

Older Adult Services

ADMHN provides an array of outpatient services that are tailored to the unique mental health care needs of men and women 60 years of age and older. Our skilled and sensitive clinicians are experts in treating the specialized emotional, behavioral and cognitive problems that often affect adults as they age. Our goal is to preserve the strength and dignity of our senior population while enhancing their quality of life. We provide the same comprehensive services to older adults that we offer to our other adult consumers – such as assessments, personalized treatment plans, individual and group therapy, psychiatric care, clinical case management and medication support – but with an emphasis on the older adult.

Depending on the consumer’s individual needs, we can provide services in the nursing home, at one of our offices or, in some cases, in the consumer’s home. We also partner with the consumer’s family, helping them better understand the types of problems their loved one is experiencing as we identify services that can support both consumer and family. And finally, our professionals serve as a resource to nursing homes, assisted living facilities and senior centers where they help caregivers understand the various mental health issues that can challenge them as they work with older adults.
